Dazzling Red, White and Blue Glitter Lotion

I love glitz and glam. I have since I was a little girl. I remember getting packages of a stick-on-earrings. Oh! The excitement! However, I also remember every time when wrapping paper yielded a new package of stick-on-earrings that my father would groan. He always complained that they “Got everywhere!”.

However he didn’t discover true horror until I had graduated to glitter. While I have sinced learned to limit how much glitter was tracked everywhere, I still enjoying having a bottle or two of glitter lotion. Come join me for a dazzling red, white and blue lotion!

First, I used Jojoba Oil. Jojoba is very light in weight and adds a dreamy feel to lotions. Also, you don’t need to add a lot to get that fantastic texture in your lotions.

Next, I used Castor Oil. Castor Oil adds drag, meaning it takes more time to massage into the skin. Perfect for lotions where you want to take a little extra time to pamper yourself. I kept the percentage of Castor Oil low, otherwise it can contribute a sticky feel.

I also used Dimethicone. Dimethicone also adds a nice drag while simultaneously imparting a delicate, velvety feel to the skin. Definitely something that helps any product go the extra mile in pampering skin.

I also added a humectant. You may use any humectant you wish. Feel free to change it up! You are in charge! I used Hydrovance as my humectant because I almost always have that on hand. What humectant do you like to use?

I also used an emulsifier to prevent the lotion from separating once it has cooled. I used Emulsifying Wax for this lotion. This really is a workhorse emulsifier that be dressed up like a pretty pony or given some of the toughest jobs on the farm. Where you put this workhorse on the job is used is entirely up to you!

Of courser I also used a preservative. I decided upon Liquid Germall Plus. This a great preservative that has a large range of water versus oil percentages it can be used in.

Last, I decided to add a fragrance to this lotion. I mean, if you are going to add glitter, might as well increase the fun with a scent! I decided on 21 Fragrance Oil. It is a fun, flirty, daytime scent that is perfect for summer!

Weigh all of the ingredients except for the preservative and glitter into a microwave safe container. Heat gently until all of the oils have melted. Heat in the microwave using short time bursts until everything is melted. Blend the ingredients to a smooth, creamy consistency using the immersion blender. Add the Liquid Germall Plus and glitter once the temperature drops to approximately 120° F in the mixing bucket. Stir gently until completely mixed. Pour into containers and allow to cool completely before labeling. Enjoy!

Notes: I used 1 0.15 cc scoop for each color of glitter. You may use more or less depending on what you desire.
