Fruit Smoothie Lip Balm

Fruit Smoothie Lip Balm

As long as I have been working here on the blog, I have always referred to old blog recipes to help me formulate my lip balms. Recently, I went to Taylor and asked,”How do I come up with my own lip balm formulations? I don’t even know where to start!”

She showed me a page on our website called Make Your Own Lip Balm. This recipe can be found in the Recipes section of our website, and often gets overlooked! Did you know that this recipe guide was published by Tina all the way back in 1998, 20 years ago? Holy Moly! I was still a little baby. I found this guide to be super helpful and it gave me an idea of where to start.

An easy guide for creating your own lip balm recipes is this:
  • 20% Beeswax
  • 25% solid at room temperature oil (Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Shea Butter, Lanolin, etc.)
  • 15% brittle at room temperature oil (Regular Cocoa Butter, Palm Kernel Oil, etc.)
  • 40% liquid oil at room temperature (Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, etc.)

A little while back Linda left us this comment on the Banana Lip Scrub.

“I have not tried a Flavor Oil from MMS that my customers and I didn’t absolutely love! Banana flavor oil can be paired with Blackberry Pomegranate to create a flavor they’ll order over and over. These flavor oils made straight up are also the finest, long-lasting flavor ever. I love them.”

Her comment made me really want to try out the combination of these two flavors. Join me today in the blog kitchen for a fun lip balm that I formulated all by myself!

Pouring the Lip Balm into Filling Tray

Lip balms are one of my favorite things to make because they are so dang easy to make! To make this lip balm I weighed out everything except for the flavor oils. Now the oils need to be melted, I use a microwave, but a double boiler pot on the stove can also be used.

Once the oils are all melted the flavor oils can now be added. Now the lip balm is ready to pour into the container of your choice! How easy it that? Once the lip balm has cooled, remove from the tray and cap the tubes, label and enjoy!

I made lots of samples so I could share with all of our adventurous makers. Don’t forget to request a sample with your next order!
