Have you ever had homemade ginger and grapefruit marmalade? Imagine it on toast: citrusy, spicy and sweet. This marmalade is so good you can’t get enough! I am already imagining it in yogurt, thumb print cookies and paired with Indian curries. Yummy. Sorry, I have to dry out my keyboard.I wanted to make a soap that would remind me of this delectable marmalade: tangy, bright and spicy.I love ginger. To me, ginger is comfort in both smell and taste. (Guaranteed, every time I travel you will find crystallized ginger or ginger chews in my bag.) I love ginger snaps, ginger beer, ginger biscotti and everything else ginger related.
I wanted to make a soap that smelled of the spicy ginger I so love. For me, our Ginger Fragrance Oil doesn’t quite cut it. Don’t get me wrong! It is a great scent but it is more floral than spicy. I wanted a spiciness of when you bit into fresh ginger and it makes your eyes water. Now I didn’t want it to be too spicy, just somewhat spicy. (It still had to be used on the skin.) I decided to use some Ground Ginger in this recipe. Come join me for this absolutely divine Ginger Grapefruit Soap! Collect Needed Items:
Recipe:
Weigh all of the oils into a microwave safe container. Heat gently until liquid. Add the lye to the water to for a lye solution. Mix the oils and lye solution and blend until a light trace is achieved. Add the Grapefruit Essential Oil and ground ginger and mix well. Pour into a mold and allow to sit for 24 hours. Cut the soap. Allow the soap to cure. Longer curing time will result in a harder bar. Enjoy! P.S. Did you know Ginger Essential Oil can accelerate trace? |
