Orange Butter Lip Balm
This...
As I told you on Friday, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I’ve decided that now I have some adorable Halloween labels, I have to put together some lip balm samples for the Shipping Department. If you are lucky enough, you will get one of these lip balms in your order when it ships this week.
I had fun making this recipe several times as I made a batch for each flavor featured on the labels last week. Let’s go make some yummy lip balm with the new flavors!

Recipe: Makes 50 regular lip balm tubes.
Recipe in Grams 102.2 grams Sweet Almond Oil 42.6 grams Cocoa Butter, White 56.8 grams Beeswax 35.5 grams Shea Butter, High Melt Point 35.5 grams Sweet Almond Butter 8.5 grams Flavor of your Choice 2.8 grams Sugar Baby q.s. Oil Soluble Lip Colors |
Recipe in Ounces 3.6 ounces Sweet Almond Oil 1.5 ounces Cocoa Butter, White 2 ounces Beeswax 1.25 ounces Shea Butter, High Melt Point 1.25 ounces Sweet Almond Butter 0.30 ounces Flavor of your Choice 0.10 ounces Sugar Baby q.s. Oil Soluble Lip Colors |
Recipe in Percentages 36% Sweet Almond Oil 15% Cocoa Butter, White 20% Beeswax 12.5% Shea Butter, High Melt Point 12.5% Sweet Almond Butter 3% Flavor of your Choice 1% Sugar Baby q.s. Oil Soluble Lip Colors |
Q.S. means quantity sufficient. The amount of color varies from person to person until you find the amount you like. Some of the colors in this need so little that it can be difficult to weigh the amount needed! So we use Q.S. to say use as much as you need to achieve the right color, flavor, etc. I colored each batch for fun, but there is not enough color to give any tint to the lips.
Weigh all ingredients except the Flavors and Oil Soluble Lip Colors into your microwave safe container. Microwave in short bursts until all ingredients are melted. The beeswax will take the most time to melt, but if you stir the mixtures after the other ingredients have been heated, it will melt quickly. Once the mixture is melted, add the Flavor Oils and Oil Soluble Lip Colors. Stir until all of the flavor and color has been incorporated. Fill tubes or jars. Cool. Label.
Notes:
For each flavor I used, I used 3% flavor and 1% Sugar Baby to help the flavor have more taste. I’ve included my notes from each batch about the colors used for each flavor.
Cantaloupe Flavored Lip Balm: This lip balm was colored using a small drop of Yellow Oil Soluble Lip Color.
Caramel Apple Flavored Lip Balm: This lip balm was colored using a drop of Ruby Oil Soluble Lip Balm Color and a dab of Black Oil Soluble Lip Balm Color. The flavor was achieved by mixing 60% Green Apple and 40% Caramel Toffee. In grams, this is 5.1 grams Green Apple and 3.4 grams Caramel Toffee. In ounces, this is 0.18 ounces Green Apple and 0.12 ounces Caramel Toffee.
Green Apple Flavored Lip Balm: This lip balm was colored using a drop of Blue Oil Soluble Lip Balm Color.
Caramel Toffee Flavored Lip Balm: This lip balm was colored using a drop of Coral Oil Soluble Lip Balm Color, a dab Yellow Oil Soluble Lip Color and a touch of Black Oil Soluble Lip Balm Color.
I hope you have fun making this batch of lip balm! If you try one of our new flavors, we would love to hear what you think!
