Honey Heirloom Cream - Oops
I found Jean’s Heirloom Hand Cream to be really enjoyable and inspiring. I just loved how dewy and velvety my skin felt and looked! I began to ponder if I could make this recipe using honey. My father keeps bees and believe me… we are nearly drowning in the stuff! Come join me for this delectable heirloom cream!When I first made this cream I didn’t look at the percentages of the ingredients. Instead my thought process was “Honey is twice as sticky as glycerin so if I reduce the honey by half and increase the water, I should be fine.” Boy, was I in for a surprise or what? I forgot that honey is full of enzymes. Enzymes that, apparently, if you have enough of them do not allow emulsification in your lotion! Imagine my surprise discovering that my lotion was separating even though it contained emulsifying wax! I went back to my recipe and changed everything to percentages. Then I discovered that 19% of my formulation was honey. Wow! No wonder I was having separation issues. Geez! If you really want to follow my Opps, then here is the recipe. Weigh everything except Optiphen into a microwave safe container. Heat gently until everything is liquid. Using an immersion blender mix everything well. Allow the solution to cool below 120° F before adding the Optiphen. Mix well. Pour into jars. Cap and enjoy!
