Orange Butter Lip Balm

I was a little disappointed with yesterday’s formulation. While I felt I had made steps in the right direction, I also felt I had made steps in the wrong direction as well. Do you ever have days where you feel like one step forward takes you two steps back? That is a little how I am feeling at the moment. The fact that I am no longer fighting excessive stickiness is fantastic! The fact that it was replaced by a sensation of greasiness is a little frustrating. I am also concerned about the soft texture. I want it to be a little firmer in texture.
So, back to the drawing board. Again, I made some limited changes to my percentages while keeping my same ingredient profile. I decreased my lanolin a second time while increasing my soy wax for a stiffer texture and my jojoba for a hopefully lighter texture. Let’s head to see if what is being created at the drawing board is transferring to real life. Notes: I am very happy with this formulation but I feel it still needs a little tweaking. I like the stiffer texture this formulation holds, but now it seems a little oily. I think I increased my liquid oils to too high of a percentage. I suspect tomorrow we will hit the perfect formulation. Let’s cross fingers!
Recipe:
Weigh all of the ingredients except for the preservative into a microwave safe container. Heat gently until all of the oils have melted. Heat in the microwave using short time bursts until everything is melted. Blend the ingredients making sure the glycerin and hydrovance don’t separate using an immersion blender. Add the Liquid Germall Plus once the temperature drops to approximately 120° F in the mixing bucket. Stir gently until completely mixed. Pour into containers and allow to cool completely before labeling. Enjoy! |
