Lightly Mint Foot Powder

Summer days mean spending time outside walking, running and playing. However at the end of the day, your feet are wet. This is where a foot powder comes into play. Many foot powders on the market are strongly mint or perhaps even have menthol in the formulations. I am first to say I like the cooling sensation of mint but it is easily overdone. Let’s go make a foot powder that doesn’t make you want to run out of your shoes!

First I started with Dry Flo TS. Dry Flo TS is a modified cornstarch. It flows much better than the cornstarch you might find in your cooking cupboard and it is less likely to clump. It is a handcrafters’ dream for body powders and other such products.

I also used Arrowroot Powder in this formulation. It is commonly used as a replacement to talc. I like the texture of Arrowroot Powder so it is a personal favorite to have in handcrafted body powders.

Additionally, I used Allantoin. Allantoin has long been used as a skin protectant but remember, as soon as you make such claims, your products are no longer a cosmetic – they are a drug and must be treated as such. Our advice? Make no claims because the production of cosmetics is far less headache and heartache.

Finally, I used a small amount of Peppermint Essential Oil. I kept the percentage very, very low. Remember, peppermint is a something that is much easier to say “Next time I will add a little more.” than “Ack! It is too minty and tingly! Where is the closest shower?!”
