Lily of the Valley Hand Cream

I have talked many times about how powerful scent is but it can be really easy to disregard. So when my grandmother recently ended up at a care facility after breaking her hip, I made it a routine to go visit after work and have dinner together. We have both loved the time together and have surprised ourselves at how many stories we end up sharing in the course of an evening. One of her few complaints has been that her hands and feet have been cold, so I thought it would be a nice surprise to bring her a jar of cream we can rub on her hands and feet. I am really excited to share a jar of this hand cream with her because one of her favorite scents for years has been Lily of the Valley.

Lily of the Valley is a classic, elegant floral that is too often glossed over. It is very easy for it to become too over powering and just to much, but when applied with a light hand, it is given its chance to shine. I think it would also be fun to find a vintage styled perfume bottle and make a lightly scented mist for her as well. My grandmother’s vanity was very much an inspiration for me as a young girl. While my vanity has a more modern touch to it, I think I will always feel that simplicity is classic and elegant.

Recipe:

Are you ready to get started? Open the pail of Goat Milk Cream. Add the fragrance. (This is will be about half of a 1 oz bottle.) Using a large spoon or spatula, stir in the fragrance. Make sure it has been mixed well. You don’t want a section that is hardly scented and a section that is strongly scented. If you want to add a color to your lotion, now is the time to do it! I decided to leave the base uncolored because I wanted the cream to be the same color as the Lily of the Valley flowers. They are a beautiful soft white color and have actually been in many bridal bouquets because of their classic appearance and white color. How cool is that?
