Orange Butter Lip Balm

LuAnn emailed me asking for help creating a face cream for mature skin. I think we tend to forget that mature skin needs a different style of love. The skin is thinner and more delicate. Let’s go make one that matches the cleanser we made the other day!
First I started with Coconut Oil Fractions, a light, dry feeling oil. It also imparts a silky feeling to the skin. Isn’t that wonderful?! I think so!
The second oil I used was Sunflower Oil. Its high oleic acid content promotes a longer shelf life. So don’t fear opening a jar of cream to hit by the odor of rancid oil! Sunflower Oil is also light in texture, so it won’t make any of your products feel too heavy.
Next I used Hydrovance to help moisturize the skin. We have even found that it makes the skin feel smoother. No more dry, scaly skin! Wahoo!
I also used Rosemary Oleoresin, which is an antioxidant. Just like the Sunflower Oil, it helps slow down the rate of oxidation in your cream. It also adds a mild herbaceous odor. I rather like it. What do you think of the smell of Rosemary Oleoresin?
Next, I used a preservative. A preservative is so very important. Unfortunately, we see a large number of people promoting the lack of preservatives. Products made without a preservative are not safe! If you are hesitating to add a preservative to your products, hesitate no longer! Check out this blog and think of the safety of your family!
Additionally, I used Emulsifying Wax to keep the cream from separating. There is nothing more frustrating than to mix up a cream or lotion then have it separate on you.
Rose Hip Oil is perfect for skin that needs a little tender love and care. The essential fatty acids in Rose Hip Oil make it ideal for mature skin!
The last product I used today is Stearic Acid, a thickener for lotions and creams. Because I didn’t want the cream too thick, I kept the Stearic Acid to a lower percentage, but you can always increase it if you want a thicker face cream.

Weigh all of the ingredients except for the preservative into a microwave-safe container. Heat in the microwave using short time bursts until everything is melted.
Blend the ingredients to a smooth, creamy consistency using the immersion blender. Allow the mixture to cool to approximately 120 degrees F, then add the Liquid Germall Plus. Stir gently until completely mixed.
Pour into containers and allow to cool completely before labeling. Enjoy!
