Making Lotion from Diane’s Cupboard

Continuing with Diane’s cupboard, I formulated a lotion that uses some of her oils along with other needed ingredients to make a moisturizing lotion. As a review, here are the ingredients in her cupboard.

As I mentioned earlier, I needed to add some necessary ingredients to make this lotion a worthwhile product. I used Emulsifying Wax, Stearic Acid, Hydrovance and Optiphen Preservative to make this lotion have that extra “Oomph!” This lotion is a great daily lotion with little drag and great soothing capabilities. Collect needed items:

Ingredients
Emulsifying Wax
Stearic Acid
Green Tea Butter
Aloe Extract
Hydrovance
Water
Fragrance of your choice (I used Green Tea & Cucumber Fragrance Oil.)
Preservative of your choice (I used Optiphen Preservative.) 		Equipment
Scale
Mixing Container (Microwave Safe)
Spoons
Transfer Pipettes
Containers for finished product (I used the 1 oz Jar Set.)

Recipe:

Recipe in ounces:
0.48 ounces Emulsifying Wax
0.32 ounces Stearic Acid
1.28 ounces Green Tea Butter
0.64 ounces Aloe Extract
0.64 ounces Hydrovance
12.4 ounces Water
0.16 ounces Green Tea & Cucumber Fragrance
0.08 ounces Optiphen Preservative 		Recipe in grams:
13.6 grams Emulsifying Wax
9.1 grams Stearic Acid
36.3 grams Green Tea Butter
18.1 grams Aloe Extract
18.1 grams Hydrovance
351.5 grams Water
4.5 grams Green Tea & Cucumber Fragrance
2.3 grams Optiphen Preservative
Recipe in Percentages:
3% Emulsifying Wax
2% Stearic Acid
8% Green Tea Butter
4% Aloe Extract
4% Hydrovance
77.5% Water
1% Green Tea & Cucumber Fragrance
0.5% Optiphen Preservative

Weigh all ingredients except the Optiphen Preservative and Green Tea & Cucumber Fragrance into the microwave safe container. Heat in the microwave using short time bursts until everything is melted. Blend the ingredients to a smooth, creamy consistency using the immersion blender. Add the Optiphen Preservative and Green Tea & Cucumber Fragrance once the temperature drops enough that you don’t feel like you are burning your hands when moving the mixing bucket. Blend until completely mixed. Pour into jars and allow to cool completely. Cap the jars.

Yield: This recipe will make 16 fl ounces.

Notes:
This light lotion has some body to it, but it would still be easy to put in a bottle with a pump. After asking several people around the warehouse for their opinions, the most repeated comment was “Light and moisturizing.” The gals in our shipping department were even excited to find that after applying the lotion, they didn’t leave oily fingerprints on the boxes.
