Making Your Own Cleaning Supplies - Air Freshener

21776615Now that I am making some progress on my very large task of spring cleaning my home in winter, I thought that I should make some air fresheners. I will share with you a few of my favorites, such as: Room Spray, Carpet Deodorizer, and in-sink disposer cleaning!

Now this is my personal favorite item to have around, anytime you want to freshen up a room or area a room spray is very quick and easy to make.

Room Spray
Spray Bottle, 12 oz size
Fragrance or Essential Oil of your choice
Polysorbate 80

Add 5ml of each fragrance oil and Polysorbate 80 into spray bottle. Mix well. Top up with warm water, cap with trigger sprayer and shake well. To use you can freshen by just spraying into the air or spray onto fabric or carpeted areas. If you are worried about discoloration from fragrance oils, then spray onto a cleaning cloth and place this rag somewhere in the room. A fast way to freshen up any room. The Polysorbate 80 is recommended for oil in water emulsions, a great way to blend that fragrance or essential oil with water.

Carpet Deodorizer

Sprinkle carpet with baking soda. Let it sit for a half-hour and vacuum. If you like, you can mix a few drops of any Essential Oil into the baking soda before sprinkling. This is an easy way to freshen up your room. Make sure to change the bag in your vacuum when finished. The baking soda will fill the bag quickly.

Garbage Disposal Cleaner/Refresher

Lemons
Ice

Use lemon slices in your beverage? I have a great way to use the remaining parts of the lemon after you have squeezed out some juice or you just needed a slice. Slice up your remaining lemon into 1/4 or 1/8 sized pieces and add them directly into your garbage disposal, add in a quart of ice cubes and run until they are all gone. Super easy way to freshen up your garbage disposal! If you have a party quantity of lemons then place new or used pieces of lemon on a cookie sheet and freeze until solid. Bag the frozen lemon pieces and label/date the bag. Use whenever you need to freshen the disposer and add a lemon scent to the kitchen.

Happy Cleaning!
