Orange Butter Lip Balm

I really dislike having dry hands. I can’t decide if the reason is the itchy and tight feeling my dry hands have or that they seem catch on everything! Either way, I needed to solve my dry hands before I went completely crazy. I decided to formulate this cream that feels good on the skin as well as pampers while moisturizing.
Let’s look at the ingredients I chose!
I picked Cherry Oil because it feels very nice on the skin and has been noted to counteract dry skin. It is also a light weight oil that will help the cream not feel too heavy on the skin.
I didn’t want to play around with emulsifiers, so I chose my basic Emulsifying Wax for trying to keep things simple.
I think humectants are fantastic, and I enjoy playing with the variety that I have available. I decided that Honeyquat would work for this recipe (and because it was at the front of my shelf).
My hands are the hands that need Lanolin in the winter. Lanolin helps create a barrier that then helps keep skin moisturized.
I added Vitamin E Acetate as an antioxidant to help slow down the oxidation of the cream.
I wanted to pamper my hands, so I added Wheat Protein and Liquid Silk for additional moisturization, feel-good texture, and label appeal.
I’m sure you know about my love for extracts, so you won’t be surprised that I had to add some! Orchid Extract and Green Tea Extract were chosen for skin soothing and repairing properties.
I really think that creams need preservatives, and I’ve really become fond of Liquid Germall Plus for the simple point that it is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients. I like breathing easy and not worrying!
I chose Apple Blossom Queen Fragrance Oil for the smile that I feel when smelling this fragrance. I don’t know if is possible for me to be sad when applying a cream scented with Apple Blossom Queen Fragrance!
Let’s go make this cream now!

Weigh all ingredients except the additives (Vitamin E Acetate, Wheat Protein, Orchid Extract, Green Tea Extract, Liquid Silk, Liquid Germall Plus, and Apple Blossom Queen Fragrance Oil) into a microwave safe container. Heat in the microwave using short time bursts until everything is melted.
Blend the ingredients to a smooth, creamy consistency using the immersion blender. Add the additives once the temperature drops to approximately 120° F in the mixing bucket. Stir gently until completely mixed.
Pour into containers and allow to cool completely before labeling.
This is a nice cream. It can be put in either a bottle with a High Viscosity Pump or in a jar. I like this cream, as it is easy to apply, but can absorb quickly. If you apply too much, it will feel a little greasy, but that is an easy fix. 🙂 I applied this cream and 45 seconds later, I was writing these notes without fingers slipping on the keyboard!
