Mud Scrub - A Daily Facial Scrub

We have experienced a bit of a warm spell which means we have lots and lots of mud. (The rain is helping with this predicament.) It clings to dog paws and boots. A seemingly permanent layer has found itself on my floor and I just can’t seem to get rid of it. Well I have decided if you can’t fight it, embrace it.

Weighing Dry Flo TS

Today I wanted to make a clay scrub for the face. I wanted something that was gentle enough it could be used on a daily basis but also would be beneficial to those who might use it once a week. I also wanted to make it and leave it in powder form. This way you can use it as needed and choose from a variety of liquids. Try milk, water, rose hydrosol and more!

Weighing Oatmeal

Collect your materials. I like to use a taller, more narrow bowl so I can weigh directly into a plastic bag. It helps limit the amount of dust and makes clean up a breeze. Weigh everything into the plastic bag. I like to weigh the Natrasorb last. It is super fluffy but also is great for dispersing the essential oils into the rest of the mixture. (The essential oils tend to clump in the clay.) Seal your bag and mix well. You will want to make sure there are no clumps. This is super important.

Weighing Milk and Aloe Powder

Once your material is thoroughly mixed, pour into your containers. I used our 12 oz size Shaker Bottles. These are perfect for this scrub.

Notes: My shaker bottle held about 5.15 oz (146 grams) of material. That tells you just how fluffy and light this is!

Adding Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate Flakes

When I went to the sink to test this scrub, I was surprised at how light it was. I added some water to my hand and started mixing. It took a little bit for the material to hydrate but when it did, wow! It was creamy and gently scrubby without being abrasive and painful. I scrubbed for several minutes to see what would happen. It started to dry a little and get gummy but it took a lot of rubbing and time to get to that point. (It took about 5 minutes to get to this point.)

Adding Natrasorb

To use, shake approximately half a teaspoon of the dry scrub into your hand. Add a little water and rub your hands together creating a creamy paste. Gently rub the mixture into the face, using a small circular motion. Massage your face for 1 minute, then rinse thoroughly. Because this scrub is designed to add water only when it is intended to be used, we don’t need to worry about a preservative. This takes a lot of worry and math out of this product!
