Peachy Cream

Don’t you just love everything about peaches? I sure do! I ran across a bottle of Peach Fragrance Oil and was inspired to make a cream featuring it.

My first thought was to use Peach Kernel Oil, but it’s out of stock at the moment. So I went to the cupboard and decided to sub Apricot Kernel Oil. It has similar properties and is another light oil, and apricots are kind of like peaches, right? It works for me!

I used our fabulous Handcrafted Shea Butter as the main emollient in this cream, as I wanted a rich cream. Jojoba Oil rounds out the emollients, and it will also provide a nice warm tone to the finished cream.

Stearic Acid (just a little bit) will give the cream plenty of body, and Liquid Silk will add a touch of luxury. Aloe Extract brings the goodness of the aloe vera plant to pamper the skin.

Peachy Cream

Instructions

Weigh first 7 ingredients (Water, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Hydrovance, Conditioning Emulsifier, and Stearic Acid) into a microwave-safe container or double boiler. Heat until melted, then blend with an immersion blender to create the emulsion. Take the temperature of the mixture; it should be at least 165ºF to ensure the stearic acid melts completely.

Allow the mixture to cool to below 120ºF (49ºC) before adding the heat-sensitive ingredients: Liquid Silk, Aloe Extract, Liquid Germall Plus, and fragrance. Stir well to combine.

The mixture will be fairly thick, so the easiest way to get it into jars is to scoop the cream into a plastic bag, snip off a corner of the bag, and pipe the cream into jars.

Notes

I added some Lemon Yellow color, thinking I would make it look more peachy. It didn’t; it just looks lemony, not peachy. Probably would have been better to just let it alone as far as color is concerned.

The feel of this cream is interesting. It’s thick, but it absorbs quickly into the skin. It feels a bit waxy going on, but that goes away. My hands are left feeling coated, protected, and soft. There is a bit of a residue as the cream finishes soaking in, but it’s not really greasy as some creams can be.

I think I may like this cream without any Stearic Acid, which is what I think is contributing to the slightly waxy feel. It’s not objectionable, just a matter of my opinion running to less waxy applications.
