Orange Butter Lip Balm

I adore going through antique shops and finding things that have history. Don’t get me wrong. I love the conveniences of the modern age but there is something romantic and elegant about the things that have survived hundreds of years. Lotions and cold creams have been made at home for a very long time and, as crafters, we continue a very old tradition. Only recently have things not been prepared at or near the home. Today I wanted to make a night cream that highlights that incredible history and tradition while using modern safety techniques. If you have any containers that have been waiting for a special occasion, this is the time to use them! If you do have an exquisite container calling to you, highlight both your lotion and jar by placing the jar on a vintage vanity tray. Even consider using Grandma’s old cream jars (sanitized, of course).
I used the Rose Hydrosol to scent this lotion and it was very light in the finished lotion. I wanted it to be “soft”, first because of the scent and secondly because lots of Rose Hydrosol can irritate the skin. One time I made a mud mask with my only liquid being Rose Hydrosol. I washed it off only to find my skin was bright red, inflamed and ultra tender. Next time I make this lotion, I might increase my Rose Hydrosol to 5% but I wouldn’t use it to completely replace my water. Remember, this is the perfect example of “If some is good, more is not necessarily better”.
This recipe also features the High Lycopene Oil. It has a minimal scent and a beautiful color that has had me dying to try it. I felt this lotion was the prefect place to try it. The result is a soft, warm colored cream that is high in Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. This is perfect for skin needing some extra TLC.
To complete the antique/vintage feel, I even asked Shayla to create a vintage inspired label. I think she did a fabulous job! What do you think? I know I have saved a jar for my Grandmother so I can hear her thoughts too!
