At times I have a tough job to come up with new blog ideas and sometimes I will find myself stumped for a few days! To try to come up with new ideas, I asked the ladies in the warehouse for some ideas or products they might use. One of the gals mentioned that she had recently seen shower diffuser disks and wanted to try them, but wasn’t sure what their intended purpose was for.
Today I am trying to make my own shower diffuser disks. If you haven’t seen these before, the disk is placed in the bottom of your shower and as you are showering the water will dissolve the disks and the shower will fill with steam and a special aroma. It has been said that appropriately scented disks can help with congestion and stuffiness. I think this would be the perfect thing to help wake me up in the morning!
Steam baths have been used all over the world for a long time. Steam, along with herbal mixtures have been used to treat many ailments and conditions. These shower diffuser disks are our modern day approach to a steam bath since some of us just don’t have time to stop what we are doing and take a long, hot bath. Now you can make your shower more than just a cleaning routine with the addition of a shower diffuser disk. Use a variety of different essential oil blends to get the result that you are searching for. Here are some ideas:
Ingredients Baking Soda Citric Acid Cornstarch Water Peppermint Essential Oil Eucalyptus Essential Oil Rosemary Essential Oil Lavender, Bulgarian, Essential Oil |
Equipment Scale Bag Pipettes Molds |
Recipe:
Recipe in Grams 527.3 grams Baking Soda 140.6 grams Citric Acid 210.9 grams Cornstarch Q.S. Water Q.S. Peppermint Essential Oil Q.S. Eucalyptus Essential Oil Q.S. Rosemary Essential Oil Q.S. Lavender, Bulgarian, Essential Oil |
Recipe in Ounces 18.6 ounces Baking Soda 4.96 ounces Citric Acid 7.44 ounces Cornstarch Q.S. Water Q.S. Peppermint Essential Oil Q.S. Eucalyptus Essential Oil Q.S. Rosemary Essential Oil Q.S. Lavender, Bulgarian, Essential Oil |
Recipe in Percentages 60% Baking Soda 16% Citric Acid 24% Cornstarch Q.S. Water Q.S. Peppermint Essential Oil Q.S. Eucalyptus Essential Oil Q.S. Rosemary Essential Oil Q.S. Lavender, Bulgarian, Essential Oil |
Q.S. in this recipe means quantity sufficient. For the water, the amount you need to add can vary depending on where you live. For the essential oils, I put Q.S. because I want you to add as much as you want. Some people like a strong scent and others don’t so the decision is up to you!
To make these shower diffuser disks the first step is to weigh out all of the powdered ingredients into a bag. I think it is easiest to use a bag so that you can close up the top and shake it to mix it. This way you won’t make such a mess! Next up, add the essential oils. I would recommend adding 4 drops of essential oil every 100 grams of powder. For this recipe, I used about 36 drops of my essential oil blend. The next step is going to be to add the water. I used a spray bottle, the spray bottle made it easy to add little amounts at a time. I kept adding water until I could grab the mixture, squeeze it and it would stay together. The mixture shouldn’t be too wet, just enough that you can begin to shape it. Then it can be put into whatever you may be using as a mold, I used some of our silicone soap molds. Press it into the mold and make sure it is packed tightly. I let mine dry out overnight before I tried to pop it out of the mold. Taking it out of the mold before the disk dries might cause the disks to crumble apart. To use these disks place one in the bottom of your shower where it is out of your way, but the water is still hitting it and helping the disk dissolve.
Enjoy!
