Orange Butter Lip Balm

Our blog has featured hundreds of recipes, adventures and even some hilarious failures. It is a goldmine of information, ideas and inspiration. That being said, there are several recipes that I delight in making over and over again. So when I was asked earlier this week about how to make a lip balm with coconut flavor, this recipe immediately came to mind. Come join me!
This lip balm has spectacular fresh taste and creamy texture. I wanted something light in texture with a moderate amount of shine. I also wanted something that was easy to apply, regardless of the temperature. The Virgin Coconut Oil allows the mixture to melt when applied to the skin. The Castor Oil gives some of that shine and gloss while the Fractionated Coconut Oil keeps the formulation from feeling overwhelmingly heavy. The result is a lighter, smooth texture that is perfect as a daily lip balm.

Weigh everything except the Coconut Flavor Oil into a microwave safe container. Heat until everything has melted and the mixture is crystal clear. Add the Coconut Flavor Oil. Stir well.
From here, you can either pipette the mixture into your tubes or you can use a filling tray. I like using a filling tray when making a lot of lip balm because they are simple and fast. If you are using a filling tray, insert your tubes into your tray. Flood the tray with your melted lip balm. Allow the mixture to cool. Scrape off the excess. I like to use a plastic putty knife. Remove the tubes from the tray and cap.
If you are going to pipette the lip balm into the tubes, fill the tube until you get a dome of liquid material at the top. Wax shrinks when it cools and doing this helps insure that you get a very pretty top. Fill all of your tubes making sure they are domed on the top before they cool. (You may need to reheat your lip balm during this process. This is normal and to be expected.) Allow the tubes to cool then cap.
How easy was that? Now you can label all of your yummy tubes of lip balm. Your friends and family will be begging for a tube to call their own!
We will be sending over 50 of these delightful lip balms to our shipping department. Request one in your next order!
