Introduction
We have added several new butters, waxes and oils to our catalog. With these new additions we wanted to put together a recipe for a new lip balm! We think this is a smooth, buttery lip balm with no grainy feel or odd texture.
This was made on the blog on May 25th 2010.
Ingredients
9 grams Candelilla Wax
8 grams Carnauba Wax
5 grams Tamanu Oil
10 grams Avocado Butter
10 grams Mango Butter
14 grams White Cocoa Butter
10 grams Emu Oil
10 grams Castor Oil
12 grams Shea Oil
12 grams Apricot Kernel Oil
1 gram Vitamin E Acetate
6 grams Grape Flavor Oil
Equipment
Scale with at least 1 gram readability
Glass Beaker or Pyrex container
Spoon
Transfer Pipettes (droppers)
Microwave
1/3 oz Lip Tins or
Lip Balm Tubes or
Lip Balm Jars
Instructions
Using the scale, weigh all ingredients except flavor oil into a glass beaker or Pyrex container. Melt ingredients in microwave on high for 30 second intervals. Once the mixture is completely melted add the flavor oil. Stir using the pipette. Using the transfer pipettes (droppers), fill your choice of container. Allow to firm before capping. The mixture will completely firm in about 10 minutes, if you have normal room temperatures. If mixture starts to set up inside the beaker, melt it in the microwave again.
Comments
This is a firm yet smooth lip balm with no graininess. If you want to add a different flavor, be sure to check the Flavor Oil section of our catalog for recommendations.
