Daily Oatmeal Face Scrub - Day 1

I wanted to make a facial scrub that was gentle enough to be used daily yet still contributed a smooth, supple sensation to the delicate skin of the face.
I started with finely ground oatmeal. Oatmeal has long been used in the world of cosmetics and beauty because it is reputed to reduce inflammation and combat dryness.

I also wanted to use Dry Flo TS. Dry Flo TS is tapioca starch that gives a silky smooth feel to heavy and/or wet feeling products.

I added clay to give a silky feeling. I really liked this formulation but I felt that the oatmeal and clay made this recipe just a little too heavy.

Ingredients
Dry Flo TS
Fine Ground Oatmeal
Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
Bentonite Clay
Allantoin
Lime Essential Oil
Lavender Essential Oil, Bulgarian
Helichrysum Essential Oil

Recipe:

Recipe in Grams
180 g Dry Flo TS
161.6 g Fine Ground Oatmeal
8 g Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
40 g Bentonite Clay
8 g Allantoin
1.6 g Lime Essential Oil
0.4 g Lavender Essential Oil, Bulgarian
0.4 g Helichrysum Essential Oil
Recipe in Ounces
6.35 oz Dry Flo TS
5.7 oz Fine Ground Oatmeal
0.28 oz Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
1.41 oz Bentonite Clay
0.28 oz Allantoin
0.06 oz Lime Essential Oil
0.01 oz Lavender Essential Oil, Bulgarian
0.01 oz Helichrysum Essential Oil
Recipe in Percentages
45% Dry Flo TS
40.4% Fine Ground Oatmeal
2% Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
10% Bentonite Clay
2% Allantoin
0.4% Lime Essential Oil
0.1% Lavender Essential Oil, Bulgarian
0.1% Helichrysum Essential Oil

Weigh all of the ingredients together. I highly recommend that you place a bag inside your container and weigh into that. Remove the bag from your container and mix well. You want to make sure you don’t have any clumps from the essential oils being added. Once the mixture is fully mixed, spoon the material into jars. You can even use one of our fabulous shaker bottles for less hassle in the bathroom.

Tomorrow I plan on making a lighter version of this recipe again with a few changes so it doesn’t feel as heavy and slick. I think that heavy feeling is due to the high percentages of clay and oatmeal.

Keep in mind these are my personal feelings. You may love this recipe! Try a small batch of this recipe and come back tomorrow to try the variation of today’s recipe. Let me know which one you like better!

To use shake approximately half a teaspoon of the dry scrub into your hand. Add a little water and rub your hands together creating a creamy paste. Gently rub the mixture into the face, using a small circular motion. Massage your face for 1 minute, then rinse thoroughly. Because this scrub is designed to add water only when it is intended to be used, we don’t need to worry about a preservative. This takes a lot of worry and math out of this product!
