Making Lip Balm from Julie's Cupboard

Yesterday I shared a Cuticle Oil that I made with the ingredients in Julie’s cupboard. Since Julie had also requested a lip balm, I formulated this lip balm to use only the ingredients in her cupboard. Here are the ingredients in her cupboard.
  • Epsom Salt
  • Sugar
  • Essential Oils- various
  • Fragrance Oils- various
  • Lots of Eucalyptus Smelling Stuff
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Flavor Oils, everything from vanilla to chocolate, and all fruits in between

After making the Cuticle Oil yesterday, I decided that I would focus on making a lip balm today. This lip balm is a treat for the lips. The oils give this lip balm an easy glide and great soothing power. Perfect for chapped lips. Let’s start making lip balm!

Collect needed items:

Ingredients
Beeswax
Shea Butter
Avocado Oil
Hemp Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Olive Oil
Flavor Oil (I used Island Delight and Sugar Baby Flavor Oils.)		 Equipment
Scale
Mixing Container (Microwave Safe)
Spoons
Transfer Pipettes
Containers for finished product (I used the White Bottom Twist Tubes and White Tube Caps.)

Recipe Total in the Final Product:

Recipe in ounces:
0.88 ounce Beeswax
1.23 ounces Shea Butter
0.53 ounce Avocado Oil
0.35 ounce Hemp Oil
0.25 ounce Grapeseed Oil
0.18 ounce Olive Oil
0.07 ounce Island Delight Flavor Oil
0.04 ounce Sugar Baby Flavor Oil		 Recipe in grams:
25 grams Beeswax
35 grams Shea Butter
15 grams Avocado Oil
10 grams Hemp Oil
7 grams Grapeseed Oil
5 grams Olive Oil
2 grams Island Delight Flavor Oil
1 gram Sugar Baby Flavor Oil
Recipe in Percentages:
25% Beeswax
35% Shea Butter
15% Avocado Oil
10% Hemp Oil
7% Grapeseed Oil
5% Olive Oil
2% Island Delight Flavor Oil
1% Sugar Baby Flavor Oil

Weigh all ingredients except the Island Delight Flavor Oil and Sugar Baby Flavor Oil into your microwave safe container. Microwave using short bursts of time, stirring every 20 to 30 seconds until all the ingredients have been melted. Do NOT microwave until the mixture is completely liquid as the mixture will be too hot to handle. The Beeswax will be the last ingredient to melt and if you are patient, simply stirring will melt the Beeswax. Using a transfer pipette, fill your lip balm tubes and allow to cool. Try to not move the containers much until the lip balm has set to prevent accidental messes.

Yield: This recipe will fill 23 of the lip balm tubes.

Notes: This lip balm does not contain a brittle oil like Palm Kernel Oil, Cocoa Butter or Cupuaçu Butter. Since we have a higher percentage of Shea Butter and Beeswax, the lip balm has turned out just fine. If you live in a warmer climate, you may want to use the High Melt Point Shea Butter to help prevent fractionation of the lip balm as it travels around in your pocket.
